Valentine’s Day Date Ideas

Valentine day date ideas by Jos A Bank

It’s that time of year again. The time when everything turns red and heart-shaped, people in relationships celebrate their love, and single people either lament being single or appreciate not having to buy an oversized teddy bear.

Regardless of how we feel about Valentine’s Day, the holiday comes with certain expectations, and we men should always seize an opportunity to put on a suit and treat our special someone to an unforgettable night. What you do on the 14th is up to you, but here are some tried-and-true ideas that will help you make this Valentine’s Day memorable for all the right reasons.

A Romantic Night Out

If you want to go all-out this year, plan a romantic night on the town, complete with dinner, drinks, and maybe even a movie or dancing. If you go the movie route, we recommend seeing the movie before dinner, to fuel conversation while you eat and to avoid rushing through your meal to make show time.

A Romantic Night In

Maybe you’re after something a little more intimate, and don’t want to fight crowded restaurant guest lists for reservations and their garages for parking. Some candles and flowers are a must to begin the date, and a bottle of champagne won’t hurt. It’s no secret that delicious food is an integral part of a successful Valentine’s Day date. If you’re staying in for the night, consider two options: order in, or cook yourself. But when you’re manning the stove, be careful not to stain that brand new cashmere sweater.

A Quiet Night In

Some people just aren’t into the fanfare that often accompanies Valentine’s Day. Instead of a big spectacle involving rose petals, some would rather enjoy alone time with their significant other. For a simple Valentine’s Day date, cook a bag of ol’ fashioned microwave popcorn, pop in a movie or two, and curl up on the couch next to that special someone.

The Best of Both Worlds

There’s a certain excitement that accompanies getting dressed up and leaving the house, but the novelty might wear thin after a couple of hours. Revelers in freezing climates, for example, may prefer getting back to a warm home after an hour or two. Grab a sport coat and tie, step out for an early dinner, then rent a movie to end the night. Or, to add a personal touch to your date, head out for drinks and appetizers, then return home to cook the main course and dessert.

Whether you view Valentine’s Day as a celebration of love and possibilities, or a holiday Russell Stover created to sell more products, February 14th is a fine time to treat someone you love.
