The Right Time To Buy A New Suit

Men's suit styles, best time to buy a suit by Jos A Bank

Nothing lasts forever, not even our favorite suit. Although it has served us well through weddings, banquets, and cocktail parties, at some point we have to come to grips with the fact that it has to be replaced.

Suits are a sizeable investment, and one that we don't necessarily want to make until we absolutely have to. However, there are some things that our suit jackets and pants can't recover from. Unfortunately, no matter how savvy our cleaning methods are, or how skilled our tailor may be, there are some things that can't be easily repaired. Here are some things to keep an eye on.

General wear and tear - Time will eventually take its toll, no matter how well you maintain it. The colors will begin to fade and certain spots will begin to wear more than others. To put it plainly, your suit will get old. There's no tried and true way to combat this other than saying your goodbyes, and replacing it with a newer model.

Large, noticeable tearing - Small fraying, or tears in spots that aren't visible or are along seams can be fixed and hidden. However, if you happen to snag your jacket or pants on something jagged and rip the fabric, your next trip isn't going to be your tailor.

Style changes - You can't transform a zoot suit into a more contemporary slim fit suit. If you're the kind of person who wants to keep up with styles and trends, then a new purchase every few years is the only way to keep pace with, or even stay ahead of the curve.

Large-scale physical change - While this is less likely to happen to adult males, it isn't completely out of the realm of possibilities. Although the majority of us have finished growing vertically and it is unlikely that we will grow taller, the shapes of our bodies are prone to change. Thus, our wardrobe should undergo some drastic transformation. If you happen to gain or lose a substantial amount of weight, you will need to purchase a new suit that fits your new body shape.

The longevity of your suits depends on how often you have to wear them and the type of activities that you're performing while in them. If your job requires a suit every day, then you're going to be in the market for a new one more often than the person who only has to wear one sparingly.

Keep wearing your suit as long as it looks good, and we're happy to help you find your new favorite when the time comes.
