Suit Styles from the Silver Screen

Three piece suits, black pinstripe three piece suit by Jos A Bank

Take a minute to think of the most powerful male actors of our time-those who have combined intimidation with allure to deliver memorable performances. Though they may exist in different eras and play a wide range of characters, they have one thing in common: they were all wearing suits.

It's no secret that a well-fitting suit can completely change your image, and these iconic big screen characters are no different. But who wore it best?

John Travolta & Samuel L. Jackson - Pulp Fiction

The wardrobe for the protagonists in Quentin Tarantino's cult classic has become notorious. Vincent and Jules (Travolta and Jackson) kept it simple: black suits, plain white shirts, and skinny black neckties.

Steve McQueen - The Thomas Crown Affair

Before the 1999 remake, Steve McQueen exuded smooth fashion in his role as the elusive and enthralling art thief. The movie is littered with great suits, however one of his best is a gray, three-piece suit, matched with a baby blue shirt, blue necktie, and a gray pocket square.

Al Pacino - Scarface

One of our favorite bad boys, Tony Montana, wears a variety of suits in the film, each with a little more blood on it than the last. While his white suit is likely the most iconic, we also enjoy the crisp look of the black pinstripe three-piece suit, white shirt with no tie, and a white pocket square.

Ryan Gosling - Crazy, Stupid, Love.

Gosling has a reputation for looking sharp, and in Crazy, Stupid, Love he certainly lives up to that reputation. So what if the movie wasn't great? We're more concerned with Jacob Palmer's wardrobe. Our favorite is the slim-fit maroon suit with a white shirt underneath. No tie is necessary for this look and an olive green pocket square gives Gosling a relaxed look to accentuate his charisma.

Humphrey Bogart - Casablanca

The Hollywood legend is the definition of charisma as Rick in Casablanca. One of our favorite looks from this film is a double-breasted checked suit, paired with a white shirt, black tie, and a white pocket square. Here's lookin' at you, Bogey.

Danny Glover - The Royal Tenenbaums

It takes a certain type of gentleman to pull off the bowtie, and Glover hits the nail on the head. A dark blue bowtie with a blue and white checked shirt underneath a dark blue suit makes for a stylish get-up.

Leonardo DiCaprio - Catch Me If You Can

Leo may not have an Oscar, but he sure had some nice suits when he portrayed the lovable con-artist Frank Abagnale Jr. As a master of disguise, Leo showed us a multitude of looks in this movie, however we're a fan of the charcoal-gray three-piece suit, paired with a clean white shirt and black necktie.

Will Ferrell - Anchorman

This isn't a comprehensive list of the best suits to have ever graced the big screen if Ron Burgundy isn't included. The biggest celebrity in San Diego had suits so awesome “they made Sinatra look like a hobo.” Along with the rest of the Channel 4 news team, Ron stands out as one of the best-dressed men to step into our theaters.

So what if they're fictional characters... they all have real style!
