How to Rock Your Office Holiday Party

Office party, holiday parties, company parties, office etiquette 101 by Jos A Bank

Andy Williams said it best, "it's the most wonderful time of the year."

It can be somewhat difficult to create a game plan for a work holiday party. On the one hand, they are a time to put on a suit, let loose a little bit, and see what your coworkers are like outside of the office. They are also a great opportunity to meet your coworkers' significant others.

Don't worry, there are some foolproof ways to make sure you have fun at your holiday party without doing too much damage to your reputation.

Pace Yourself

We get it, it's a little bit fun and a little bit awkward to see what your colleagues are like outside of work. Whether you are looking to have a good time, are just a tad uncomfortable trying to talk to your boss about his kid's soccer game, or are preoccupied with the design of your holiday sweater, be wary of the open bar.

Yes it's a party, so it's important to have a good time and not be a wallflower. However, these are also people you are going to have to answer to on Monday morning. There is nothing wrong with having a little fun, but be careful not to go overboard.

Dress To Impress

Even if your office has a casual day-to-day dress code, the holiday party is a great time to break out your best. Typically the invitation will let you know what type of clothing is expected, but if there is no indication then a suit and tie is a safe bet.

Leave Work at Work

No matter what went on during the week, leave your work worries at the office. Unless it's a dire emergency that requires immediate attention, the matter can wait until work resumes on Monday.

What Happens at the Party, Stays at the Party

Your coworkers may not be smart enough to heed the knowledge we're providing, therefore, as the party wears on their antics might become less than reputable. If you happen to bear witness to some office debauchery, adopt the motto of all of those who have ever ventured to Las Vegas, and keep it to yourself.

Now, hustle out of that meeting room, grab a clean pair of dress pants and get the party started!
