Great Gifts for Graduates

Graduation gifts by Jos A Bank

Graduation, whether from high school, college, or a vocational program is a landmark achievement for a young adult. Walking across the stage in a suit and tie and receiving a diploma is a physical representation of the sacrifice and dedication required to complete a rigorous curriculum, and the finale of years of hard work.

The ceremony is typically accompanied by cheering, an overwhelming number of pictures, and maybe even a few tears from friends and close family. Congratulatory gifts typically take the form of cards, hopefully with a few dead presidents in them.

While money is always a welcome addition, endeavor to break the mold this year and give your graduate something other than dollar bills. Strive to find something that is personal and special to him, or that will be useful as he prepares to take the next step into the working world.

New Suit

As the saying goes, "the suit makes the man." Your recent grad is about to take the next step towards adulthood, so make sure he is properly outfitted to make a strong first impression. Whether he is preparing to enter college or the workforce, a brand new suit will have him looking good and feeling confident for years to come.

It doesn’t have to be anything flashy – the basics of charcoal or blue will do. Make sure it is tailored to fit him perfectly and if you’re feeling generous, throw in a couple dress shirts he can wear to round out his ensemble.

Rest & Relaxation

A relaxing trip is a great way to reward the years spent buried in books, taking notes, and studying for tests. Offer your congratulations in the form of a vacation, giving him the opportunity to decompress at the beach or explore parts of the world that he’s never seen before. A week or so will be a welcome reprieve before it’s time to face life’s next set of challenges.

Accessorize

If his wardrobe is already well-stocked with the basics, pick out some personalized accessories that he can wear when he gets dressed up. A couple nice ties are great additions to any collection, as are a pair of engraved cufflinks or a tie bar. When it comes to style, minor upgrades can make a big difference.

Taste of Adventure

Supporting a one-of-a-kind adventure he has always wanted to take part in is the perfect way to incentivize, and ultimately compensate him for all of his hard work. Think back to that one thing he has been wanting to do for years but didn’t have the resources or the time to do: skydiving, mountain climbing, maybe bungee jumping? If you’re feeling particularly bold, tap your inner daredevil and go with him!

Make sure to reward his hard work this graduation season. From all of us at Jos. A Bank, congratulations on all the success. Good luck!
