Father’s Day Gifts for Retired Dads
Just because your dad has retired from his job doesn’t mean he’s finished being your father. Celebrate with your dear old dad this June 21st, and give him a gift that will help him fill all that free time.
Grill
There are few things better than enjoying the warm weather on a spring or summer day and having a nice meal cooking on the grill. Whether it’s a gas or charcoal grill, your dad will be sure to love his brand-new appliance. Might as well throw-in a new set of grilling tools to go with it, for the full culinary experience. And, make sure he is well-versed in the proper DIY stain removal tips just in case he spills ketchup on his favorite dress shirt.
Trip for Two
Now that dad has a bit more time on his hands, he has some more flexibility with his travel availability. Even though it’s Father’s Day, book a trip for him and your mother, and give them the opportunity to spend some time away together. Find a place they haven’t been before or if you want to go the more sentimental route, pick out a place that they went together years prior so that they can relive those fond memories.
Hobby
Do a bit of research about certain hobbies that your father has taken up since his working life has ended to find a gift or activity for Father’s Day that suits his interests. If he has taken a liking to automobiles it might be fun to attend a classic car show or even find an old set of wheels for him to refurbish. If he is using his free time to explore the outdoors, consider planning a hiking adventure or a relaxing fishing trip. Try and find a gift that will help further this new hobby or take some time to explore what he loves with him.
Old Friends
After years in the work force it’s safe to assume that your father has built some pretty strong relationships and some of his closest friends may, in fact, be old coworkers. Find an opportunity to reunite your father with his old friends for a night or a weekend for a small reunion of sorts.
Fulfill a Dream
Maybe there’s something your dad always wanted to do but never had time to, because he was busy, you know, working and raising you. Retirement is a great time to repay him by helping him fulfill the dreams that have been on hold for many years. It might be something that he does solo such as driving a classic car or sampling hundred year-old scotch. Or, it could be something that you guys can do together such as traveling or going skydiving.
After all those years of hard work, your dad deserves something extra special this year!
