Fashion Faux Pas Men Make that Women Hate

Fashion Faux Pas Men Make that Women Hate such as white socks & dirty clothes by Jos A Bank

There are a lot of ways to rub our spouses the wrong way like spending entire weekends glued to the couch or leaving the toilet seat up. These are honest mistakes that can occasionally be overlooked. However, one thing that won't be forgotten, and will live on in photos and stories: a bad outfit.

We're not going to get it right all the time, and some of us may not be what we would consider "fashionable". However, there are a few attire mistakes that all men should know to avoid.

White Socks

Unless you're the front-man for a Michael Jackson tribute band (and if this is the case then please let us know), you should never wear white socks while wearing a dark-colored suit. There are very rare occasions where white socks are an acceptable accessory to a formal outfit. However, the overwhelming majority of the time, it's best to grab a dark pair of socks, or match the colors in your socks to the rest of your ensemble.

Ill-Fitting Attire

It is imperative that we wear clothes that fit us well. We have discussed before how a suit should fit and it is vital that we adhere to these guidelines. Sure, we all have our personal style which will have a minor effect on how the suit falls (classic fit vs. slim fit, vs. ultra slim). But no matter what your specific style is, your clothes should be cut to fit you perfectly.

Dirty Clothes

Few faux pas are more enraging than preparing to leave for an event and discovering that you are wearing something dirty and/or wrinkled (c'mon, it should never be both). Why is this so infuriating? Because it's so easily avoidable. A tiny bit of foresight will allow you the time to have your clothes dry-cleaned and pressed before your event. If you are in a pinch, however, there are DIY stain removal tactics you can use to remove the stain from your favorite shirt.

Color Blind?

Pop culture has done men a disservice when it comes to color pairing. Fashion icons like Russell Westbrook and Pharrell have become trendsetters for being able to pull off (and if we're honest, sometimes not so much) extravagant outfits that appear to be mismatched only to become the next, hot style. The sad truth is, you're not Russell or Pharrell (unless you are, then thanks for reading), so when you arbitrarily pair colors and patterns, it looks haphazard, not cool.

Dress Code

Looking for a surefire, quick way to annoy your spouse: show up under-dressed to an event or gathering. Make sure you know the dress code of wherever you are going before you step out the door. A good rule of thumb: it's OK to be over-dressed, so even if the invitation states that recommended attire is casual, a suit with no tie is a far better option than jeans and a t-shirt.

It might take us a little longer to remember to sanitize the sink after shaving, but at least we can clean up nicely when necessary!
