Commuter Clothing Guide
After hitting the snooze button a couple times it’s finally time to get out of bed, enjoy your morning coffee, and get ready to go to work. Depending where you live, and how far away you are from the office, there are a number of different ways to get to your place of business each day. Your mode of transportation can, and should, have an effect on the type of clothes you are wearing on your daily commute.
Nowadays, most offices abide by a business casual dress code. There are many professions that require their employees to wear suits, but most of us are lucky enough to have a bit of leeway when it comes to deciding what to wear. Choose wisely, and make sure that your outfit makes it to work looking as good as it did when you left the house.
Public Transportation
Whether it’s the train, metro, or bus system, most cities have advanced public transportation networks that can get you where you need to go. Unfortunately, during your daily commute, it’s likely that you’re sharing this public transport with hundreds of your closest friends, in close quarters. Consider wearing something that is stain resistant, to guard against ending up with someone’s coffee or a spot of croissant adorning your freshly-pressed dress shirt.
Bike to Work
Perhaps you like to stay fit, or do your part to protect the environment – or both. Riding a bike is a great way to get around town if you don’t live too far from work and if your city is "bike friendly," with the proper lanes and routes to get you safely to and fro. Choose clothing that is a bit more form fitting, such that excess fabric doesn’t impede your pedaling. Having your trousers properly tailored is easier than explaining to your superiors why your left pant leg is always ripped. And be sure to either roll your right pant leg, or safeguard the fabric from the greasy chain with a strap.
Walk
As the saying goes, "location, location, location," and a lucky few of us are close enough to our jobs to get there on foot each day. If you walk to work, think about wearing clothing that is made out of breathable fabrics, as you’ll be expending more energy than if you were driving a car or riding the subway.
No matter how far you have to go or how you plan on getting there, look stylish on your daily commute from start to finish.
