Bag & Luggage Guide for Men

There's a scene in The Hangover where the Zach Galifianakis character says his satchel is not a man purse. But it kind of is, isn't it? Perhaps more importantly, so what?
But words matter! And as men of style, it's okay if we want to call something a "shoulder bag" instead of a "messenger bag." Just like it's okay if we want to avoid using words such as "murse" or "brosac" to describe some of our favorite accessories. The same goes for clothes that we'll probably never wear just because of their weird brand names, such as WeAretheSuperlativeConspiracy, Durkl, Good Enough and Human Made. (By the way, we didn't make up these brand names.)
The bag makes the man
But getting back to men's bags — satchels, backpacks, duffel bags, attaché cases, briefcases, tote bags, etc. — perhaps one of the most important things to consider when shopping for them is figuring out if you want something unique and stylish or practical and durable. Additional considerations include figuring out if it goes with your general style, deciding how you'll use it, what size you'll need, and what fabric (nylon, canvas, suede, leather, etc.) you prefer.
Some of these factors change if you're on the market for luggage.
Luggage that fits your personal style and your lifestyle
When traveling, peace of mind is of utmost importance. Here are some important factors to consider when shopping for travel luggage: If you're planning on rolling it, should you get two or four wheels? Should it be soft-sided or hard-sided? Do you need compartments? If security is an issue, should you forgo luggage with zippers? Do you need to get a TSA-compliant lock?
Also, just before making a purchase, inspect the parts that are most likely to break. Do the straps/handles seem sturdy? Do the seams look like they might eventually unravel?
Lastly, ask yourself if you really want to get black luggage. We're not suggesting you invest in fluorescent orange suitcases. But if you're considering getting black luggage, realize that every destination's airport baggage carousel will be full of dozens if not hundreds of black pieces of luggage. Therefore, at the very least, consider opting for plain, versatile colors such as navy, grey, or charcoal.
The right bag or luggage can make a world of difference
Whether you're after a classic bag by Toms or Herschel, or a more fashionable bag by Ralph Lauren or Marc Jacobs ... whether you're after something to carry your laptop or your gym shoes in ... whether you're after an overnighter or a weekender ... there are endless options. Indeed, finding just the right bag or luggage can be confusing and difficult. That said, we're confident that if you set your mind to it, you'll find something that's both functional and expresses something about your style.
