This jacket is of the highest quality that I've ever own… it's my third aviator style jacket, all from different clothiers. They can last over 10 years if you buy quality which this is. I've read the posted reviews and although they are accurate in their own right, I believe some of the points made could be filed under buyer beware. One review states that the jacket does not have a worn look to it. That is correct, it does not. However this jacket is not advertised as a "distressed leather" garment and the pictures on the web site clearly indicate that it is not. If you are looking for distressed leather, this may not be the jacket for you. The same reviewer stated that it is hard to get your hands in the side pockets, I was able to do this; however, I agree, it is not a comfortable arrangement. I don't really put my hands in my pockets, if I did, most likely I'd place them in my jeans or slacks as I believe that would be more comfortable.

Another reviewer stated that the jacket itself seemed to be a smaller cut, aviators tend to be a different type of fit and if you're looking for an open bottom type of feel, again, this may not be the jacket for you. I'm 6-1' and weight about 215 lbs. my jacket is a large and fits me well even with a light sweater. I live in California and will most likely wear the jacket as I have all the other aviators that I've owned, with some type of a thermo or light pull over shirt.

The leather quality and collar on the jacket that I received is indeed real and high quality. The outer shell has a light luster to it that is in keeping with this type of treated leather. The pictures on the web site depict more of a sheen than my jacket actually has. If you use the zoom feather this point is magnified, so the sheen may be jacket specific if you will. Roll it in the dirt a little that will take care of the sheen (I'm kidding, don't really do that ok.)
The detachable collar is over sized, that is by design, the product is made to keep your neck warm in weather conditions that are not favorable, I'll keep the collar attached while in the mountains but unless it is needed for warmth, I'll wear the jacket without it.

A note to JoS. A. Bank, I went to the Q&A section, a lot of this review can be answered in the body of that form, however no answers from JoS. A. Bank have been provided. I believe that reviews from customers who own this jacket can be of a great value, however, if a customer truly cannot get to one of your stores, those answers may help in the decision making process. My jacket was bought from the web site as a Christmas gift this year from my wife. She may not have bought it if there wasn't access to a store within driving range.

The bottom line is, I really like this jacket, I'm grateful to own something of this quality as I know that many cannot. I believe the jacket is a great deal for the money that we paid…

I had a jacket like this over 20 years ago, it was my favorite and I wore it out. I call this a Bomber Jacket and I never found another in the exact style, material, and price I wanted until this jacket. Most other so called leather jackets for under $400 I have looked at lately smell like gasoline I guess due to cheap leather or leather processing. I have read that some leather products include PVC plastic now, maybe that is the smell. This Jacket is TOP QUALITY in every way, it fits, looks, feels, and smells like a quality leather jacket should. It is not a wind breaker so don't expect it to be light weight. This is a MAN'S jacket, if you have worn quality cow hide leather jackets before you know what to expect as far as weight. It fits great but if you remove the zip-out liner and snap-off fur collar it fits like a glove right out of the box. And when the fur collar is removed there are no unsightly snaps showing. It has 2 LARGE interior pockets (no snaps, zippers, or flaps at the top of them) and an additional pocket that is part of the zip-out liner that looks good for a cell phone. There are also two exterior flap front pockets that snap close and 2 hand warmer pockets behind the flap pockets. I have large hands and the hand warmer pockets are a little tight for me but I have found that to be so on all jackets of this style. If you like this style jacket you won't be disappointed with this one. I got mine on sale and it is one of the best purchases I have ever made.

I have mixed reviews on the Aviator.

I find it to be a smaller cut compared to some of the other Bank leather coats that I have. I find the sleeves short for a XXL sixe.
I like the looks and the ruggedness of the leather, and theloks of the collar, although it would look GREAT if the collar was the real denal.

Very nice jacket. My second aviator. Like the removable liner though it is quite heavy with it in. Just spent the week in Iowa and the jacket was very warm. The leather does not have that "worn" look that I'd expect from an aviator and I'm guessing it will take ALOT of wearing to get it looking broken in. Seems a bit too shiny and lacks character. I'd also recommend trying it on at the store before buying online because of the pockets, which are my only real disappointment. It's hard to get your hands into the side hand pockets unless the coat is zipped because of the location of the openings. Your arms won't go back that far. And the openings should have been diagonal instead of straight up and down, though that would have created a style change with the snap pockets on the front. The outside hand pockets are also not very large. The snap pockets on the front for storage are a good size though. Even worse on the inside. Only two small (pack of gum size) pockets are available. There is a large chest pocket on the inside of the coat itself but it is somewhat inaccessible with the liner in. I spent the week with the liner half-unzipped from the bottom so I could get to the inside chest pocket.

I've been looking for a heavy jacket with great fit and this is it! Can't beat the price. Excellent quality and very comfortable. Big front pockets for my phone and gloves.Looking forward for the cold weather!! Ordering a second one very soon!!

I like the style of this jacket,the fit is perfect and the zip out lining is a nice feature. The color and quality of the leather is great and it is put together well. That's the plus side. On the negative side, it's very heavy with the lining in. But the real kicker is that CHEEEEZIE fake fur collar!!! On a [$] jacket, Really??? Perhaps that's why it is removable! (And it was!) Only 3 stars because I have come to expect more attention to detail than that from JB.

I admired this jacket and waited for it to go on sale for a long time. It had all the features I wanted including a changeable collar and a lining. It was not the jacket I expected. First, the fit is not like the black, open bottom Jos Bank jacket I have. It is significantly smaller. Also, with the lining in, this is a VERY heavy jacket. In my opinion it's just too heavy to wear comfortably. Plus the leather is not the same excellent quality of my black jacket. It is rough and stiff and does not have the smooth or "buttery" feel I was hoping for. However when I returned this jacket to my local Jos Bank store I found a brown bomber jacket that is everything the aviator is not. While it's not the aviator style I wanted I am very happy with the bomber jacket and I was able to get it for the same excellent sale price of the aviator.
