Fireworks & Fashion: 4th of July Style Tips
The summer is shaping up nicely. This year, the 4th of July is on a Friday!
That means there's no need to worry about how you're going to fit back into that suit and return to "work mode" after a day of fun, sun, and barbecuing. Instead, you can stroll out of the office Thursday afternoon brimming with excitement for the upcoming three day weekend kicked-off by the annual celebration of American independence.
The typical illustration of a 4th of July celebration contains one too many pairs of jorts (jean shorts). The way we see it, you can celebrate the stars and stripes and still be classy while doing it.
We recommend leaving the top 2 buttons of your short-sleeve sportshirt open to allow for some cool air to circulate. If you want to get in the spirit of the holiday, look for a blue or red shirt, or a striped combination of the two. Since you're most likely going to a less-than-formal barbeque or social gathering, it's perfectly acceptable to leave your shirt untucked.
Keep your relaxed outfit consistent with a nice pair of khaki or colored shorts. Make sure the color of your shorts complements your shirt. For example, pair a red shirt with blue pants. If you decide to tuck your shirt in make sure you have a leather belt that matches the color of your shoes.
To round out your outfit, slide your feet into some oxford lace-up or casual slip-on shoes. Leave your wingtips in the closet, there's no need to be overly formal. Socks are optional; however, take the temperature into account when making your decision. If you know that you are prone to sweating then a pair of "no show" socks might be an elegant solution and also keep your shoes dry and free of odor.
Whether you're manning the grill or simply enjoying the fireworks, celebrate this 4th of July in style!
